LeMay : The Life and Wars of General Curtis Lemay.
“Curtis LeMay believed that a country should think long and hard before it makes the fateful decision to go to war. But once that decision is made (and in the case of the U.S. by Congress), then a nation should use every weapon in its arsenal to win the conflict as quickly as possible. If it is not willing to do that, then it shouldn’t go to war in the first place. LeMay did not believe in proportional response. He believed in disproportional response. Long before the use of overwhelming force was the Schwarzkopf or Powell doctrine, it was the LeMay doctrine.” _________________ >^..^< Mike

I just started reading "1984". I have this old ragged copy in paperback and I realized that I hadn't read it in years. Orwell was certainly ahead of his time. _________________ -Erik Wilcox

Indeed.
The opening lines of this visionary novel never fail to elicit some sort of strange nostalgia in me. A feeling of having been there. Perhaps I live there now.
“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. Winston Smith, his chin nuzzled into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind, slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions, though not quickly enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with him.” ~ George Orwell 1984

Googled : The End of the World as We Know It.
A fascinating inside-baseball look at Google, its creators Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and how the search giant went from the proverbial garage startup to the super-successful firm it is today. _________________ >^..^< Mike

One thing Orwell got wrong: Big Brother may have ambitions to monitor and control our every move but he simply can't find minions capable of doing it. Take the underpants bomber for instance. He boarded the flight in England, which probably has more surveillance than anywhere else in the world, but did that have the slightest effect? No, it didn't. _________________ John

The Harvard Psychedelic Club: How Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Huston Smith and Andrew Weil Killed the Fifties and Ushered In a New Age for America.
Reading this, I felt like I was coming home after a long absence of many years.
